EDF CNEN chooses Trace Elec Pro ORACLE by Trace Software to develop cabling diagrams for EPR plants

EDF CNEN selected Trace Software as a strategic partner for supplying software for designing wiring diagrams for new EPR (European Pressurized Reactor) plants.

Up until now, wiring diagrams, routing and connection plans were designed using "homemade" software. EDF CNEN decided to use commercial software for their new plants in order to benefit from more functions and to reduce software proprietary costs. EDF CNEN consulted various offers that are available on the European market and selected Trace Software Company and its Trace Elec Pro ORACLE software. The following criteria were important factors in choosing Trace Software:
» Product's technology structured around an ORACLE database that stores all project data.
» Software capacity to be used in multi-user mode and to communicate with CNEN's information system.
» Product's simplicity, power, as well as native compatibility with DWG format.
» Functional coverage, in particular: wiring diagrams, routing and connection plans...
» Trace Software's commitment to work in partnership on the long-term and its capacity to integrate its product with product cycle management tools used by CNEN.

"We are very proud to have been selected by CNEN, our technology is recognized for a long-term project with exceptional requirements for data reliability and durability. Trace Software was one of the first to launch a CAD product for electricity on the market that uses an SQL (SQL Server, ORACLE) database. In Trace Elec Pro, the project is a database and the graphic part is only a view of this database. At CNEN, Trace Elec Pro operates in a bidirectional link with the in-house ERP system that manages all of the plant's data. All schematic changes are systematically reported in the ERP through Trace Elec Pro's Import/Export module. The data management volume is very large (cables, fittings...) and entirely managed by a multi-user mode ORACLE database, CNEN's DBMS. Also, users can access project data from several remote sites," explains Etienne Mullie, the founding President of Trace Software.

After wiring diagram design, sub-contractors work directly on wiring diagram data in order to develop details for cable connections. They also use Trace Elec Pro's ORACLE project database to develop specific operations related to cable routing. Working directly with project databases not only saves time, but it avoids having to re-enter data and optimizes modification management.

About Trace Elec Pro
Trace Elec Pro is an Electrical CAD solution for designing industrial installations. An innovative application, it uses a standard market open database for storing electrical data and the standard graphic format, AutoCad. Trace Elec Pro handles complete electrical projects: synoptic, wiring diagrams, diagram development, cable routing. It is adapted to large and small companies and it is suitable for prime contractors and manufacturers (special machines, automatic systems, industrial installations), as well as for engineering departments and installers, taking into account all of the customer's requirements.

About Trace Software
For more than 18 years, Trace Software has edited software for designing industrial installations, automatic industrial systems and electrical calculations. Trace Software is a partner with Autodesk and Dassault Systems, with subsidiary offices and distributors that sell "Trace Elec" products (Trace Elec Pro, TR-CIEL, Trace Elec Routing) on the international market. TraceParts SA, a subsidiary company, is a world specialist for modelling and publishes CAD models for mechanical and industrial components, with the well-known website for downloading CAD models: www.traceparts.com.
